Revelation 19:7–9
Reveals the Lord Jesus as the Lamb as the Bridegroom VS In the Gospel of John,
Christ Is Presented as the Lamb and as the Bridegroom
Matthew 25:1 Then the kingdom
of heaven will be like ten virgins who, taking their lamps, will go out to meet
the bridegroom.
John 1:29 The next day John
saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away
the sin of the world!”
John 3:29 The one who takes
the bride is the bridegroom; and the bridegroom’s friends stand listening to
him, and are glad and joyful at the bridegroom’s voice. So my joy is complete.
Revelation 19:7 Let us be
joyful and glad and give him glory, for the wedding of the Lamb has come, and
the bride herself has prepared herself.
Revelation 19:8 And she will
be clothed with fine linen, bright and clean, which represents the righteous
deeds of God’s people.
Revelation 19:9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are all who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

Aspect |
Revelation
19:7–9 — The
Lamb as the Bridegroom |
Gospel
of John — The
Lamb and the Bridegroom |
|
Meaning |
Reveals the
ultimate goal after redemption: the Lamb entering into marriage as the
Bridegroom |
Reveals that
from His first coming Christ bore both the identity of the Lamb and the Bridegroom |
|
Reason |
Redemption is
completed and the bride has made herself ready |
God revealed
from the beginning that Christ came not only to redeem but
also to gain a bride |
|
Metaphor |
The marriage of
the Lamb — a universal wedding |
The Bridegroom and the friend of the Bridegroom |
|
Purpose |
To receive the
bride
and fulfill God’s eternal economy |
To call forth
and produce the bride, bringing believers into a relationship, not merely salvation |
|
Explanation |
The Lamb =
the Redeemer; the Bridegroom = the Husband in
marriage |
The Lamb takes
away
sin; the Bridegroom comes to marry the bride — two
aspects in one Christ |
|
Mutual Relationship |
Redemption (the
Lamb) is the prerequisite for marriage
(the Bridegroom) |
The goal of
marriage is already implicit in redemption |
|
Examples |
The marriage
dinner of the Lamb; the bride clothed in fine linen |
John 1:29 (the Lamb); John 3:29 (the
Bridegroom) |
|
Application |
The saints must
be prepared on earth as the bride |
Believers
should move from merely being saved to loving and awaiting the Lord |
|
Burden |
To call the
overcomers to be prepared for the wedding feast |
To turn
believers’ focus from sin-removal to a
bridal relationship |
|
Prophesying Guidance |
Proclaim: the Lord is the coming Bridegroom, and the church is His
bride |
Testify: we are saved by the Lamb and attracted by the Bridegroom |
|
Conclusion |
The Lamb’s ultimate
status is the Bridegroom; the end of redemption is marriage |
From the
beginning Christ came as the Lamb with a view to marriage |
