The Process of Being Marked Out as Sons of God

The Process of Being Marked Out as Sons of God

Being Marked Out as God’s Sons vs. Passing through Death and Resurrection vs. Being Transformed in Life vs. Being Made God in Life and Nature

The four processes below should not be regarded as four separate works. They are four aspects of one divine-life process: the divine life enters our spirit, passes through death and resurrection, grows and transforms us, conforms us to Christ, and eventually causes us to be fully manifested as sons of God.

Death and resurrection are the way; growth and transformation are the process; being marked out as sons is the manifestation; being made God in life and nature is the consummation.

1. Integrated Master Table

Aspect

Being Marked Out as Sons of God

Passing through Death and Resurrection

Being Transformed in Life

Being Made God in Life and Nature

Meaning

The divine life grows within us until the expression of God’s Son is progressively manifested in us

Our natural life, self, and old man pass through death so that the divine life may be released and manifested in resurrection

The divine life spreads within us and transforms our soul into the image of Christ

The divine life reaches maturity so that we become God in life and nature, but not in the Godhead

Reason

Christ has already been marked out as the Son of God in resurrection; we are still in the process of being marked out

The divine life has been planted in our spirit like a seed and must pass through death and resurrection

Only through the growth of the divine life can our natural constitution be transformed

God's eternal purpose is to bring many sons into glory and conform them to the image of His firstborn Son

Central Thought

Sonship / being constituted as sons

Death and resurrection

Growth and transformation

Becoming God in life and nature

Biblical Picture

A stone gradually reveals the image according to which it is being shaped

A grain of wheat falls into the ground, dies, and rises to produce many grains

A living organism grows and undergoes a change in form and constitution

Many sons eventually bear the same divine life and nature as the Firstborn Son

Explanation

Romans 1:3–4 shows Christ as David's seed according to the flesh, yet designated the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by resurrection. We participate in this process through resurrection life

John 12:24 shows that the grain must fall into the ground and die in order to bear much fruit. Death is the entrance into resurrection

2 Corinthians 3:18 shows that we are progressively transformed into the same image as we behold the Lord

Romans 8:29 shows that we are predestinated to be conformed to the image of God's firstborn Son

Effect

The divine life and nature increasingly become visible in our living

The outer man is being consumed, while the inner man is renewed day by day

Our mind, emotion, and will are increasingly saturated with Christ

Ultimately our spirit, soul, and body will be fully conformed to Christ in glory

Purpose

To make us mature sons who express God

To release and manifest the resurrection life of Christ

To conform us to Christ's image

To produce God's corporate expression, the Body of Christ, consummating in the New Jerusalem

Mutual Relationship

The goal and manifestation

The way and life-power

The inward growth and transformation

The mature consummation

Spiritual Order

Divine life growth sonship manifestation

Cross death resurrection release of life

Turning to the Lord nourishment watering growth transformation

Sanctification transformation conformation glorification

Biblical Examples

Christ was designated the Son of God in resurrection; believers progressively manifest the life of God's sons

The grain of wheat; Paul's experience of bearing the dying of Jesus so that the life of Jesus could be manifested

Moses beholding the Lord's glory; believers growing through the pure milk of the word

Romans 8:23; 1 John 3:2—our body is redeemed and we become like Him

Practical Application

Do not merely imitate Christ outwardly; allow the divine life to grow and express itself from within

Accept the cross, God's dealings, circumstances, and the breaking of the natural man

Turn to the Lord, open to Him, enjoy His word, receive the supply of the Body, and walk according to the spirit

Live for the goal of being the corporate expression of Christ rather than merely practicing outward religion

Ministry Burden

We are not merely believers in God's Son; we are to grow into mature sons and express the Son's life

The cross is not merely suffering; death operates so that resurrection life may be released

Spiritual maturity is not merely an increase of knowledge but an increase of Christ in us

God's salvation ultimately brings us into sonship so that we may be God in life and nature, but not in the Godhead

Prophetic Guidance

“Lord, let Your life grow in me until Your Son is increasingly expressed through me.”

“Lord, I accept Your cross and Your dealings so that the resurrection life may be released in me.”

“Lord, give me a turning heart, a pure heart toward You, a love for Your Word, and openness to the supply of the Body.”

“Lord, sanctify, transform, conform, and glorify me so that I may become Your expression in life and nature for the Body of Christ and the New Jerusalem.”

Conclusion

Being marked out means that the life of God's Son is increasingly manifested in us

Death and resurrection release and develop the divine life

Transformation is the inward spreading and growth of the divine life

Being made God is the mature result of God's life and nature being wrought into us

2. The Four Processes

Being Marked Out as Sons of God

Christ is the prototype. He was:

David's seed according to the flesh → resurrection → designated the Son of God in power.

We follow the same principle:

Divine life enters us → resurrection operates in us → divine life grows → Christ is formed in us → we are progressively manifested as God's sons.

Therefore, “being marked out” is not merely an outward declaration. It refers to the progressive manifestation of the divine sonship life within us.

Passing through Death and Resurrection

John 12:24 gives the central picture:

One grain → falls into the ground → dies → rises → bears many grains.

Thus:

Death is for resurrection; resurrection is for growth; growth is for transformation.

The cross deals with the natural man, while resurrection releases the divine life.

2 Corinthians 4:10–12, 16 shows the same principle:

The death of Jesus operates in us → the life of Jesus is manifested → the outer man is consumed → the inner man is renewed.

Therefore, suffering and dealings should not merely be viewed negatively. God uses them to give the divine life more opportunity to operate within us.

Being Transformed in Life

Transformation is not outward behavior modification. It is an inward metabolic change produced by the divine life.

Four major supplies are particularly important:

1.      Turning our heart to the Lord  2 Corinthians 3:16–18; Matthew 5:8.

2.      Being nourished by the Word  1 Peter 2:2; Hebrews 5:12–14.

3.      Receiving the supply of the Body through gifted members  1 Corinthians 3:6; John 7:37–39.

4.      Allowing circumstances and failures to expose and break down the self  Romans 8:28–29.

The spiritual pattern is:

Turn to the Lord behold the Lord receive the Word receive the Body's supply experience the cross grow in life be transformed.

Being Made God in Life and Nature

This expression must be understood carefully.

To be made God does not mean to become God in the Godhead.

Rather:

We become God in life and nature, but not in the Godhead.

What we receive

Our participation

God's life

Yes

God's nature

Yes

God's image

Yes

God's glory

Yes

God's expression

Yes

God's divine life supply

Yes

The Godhead

No

Becoming an independent God

No

Becoming an object of worship

No

Thus the goal is not that man becomes another independent God, but that the Triune God works Himself into His redeemed people so that they may express Him corporately in life and nature.

3. The Four-Layer Relationship

Layer

Question

Answer

1. Being Marked Out

Who does God want us to become?

God's sons

2. Death and Resurrection

How is this accomplished?

Through death and resurrection

3. Transformation in Life

What happens inwardly?

The divine life grows and transforms us

4. Being Made God

What is the ultimate result?

Becoming God in life and nature

Therefore:

Being marked out = manifestation
Death and resurrection
= way and power
Transformation
= inward process
Being made God
= consummation

4. The Complete Spiritual Development

The four processes can be arranged into one divine-life sequence:

Divine life enters our spirit

The divine seed is planted

Death and resurrection

Growth in life

Transformation in life

Conformation to Christ

Being marked out as God's sons

Glorification

Being made God in life and nature

Building up of the Body of Christ

Consummation in the New Jerusalem

This shows that the four processes are not four parallel tracks, but four dimensions of one divine process.

6. Spiritual Formula

Divine Life Divine Seed Death and Resurrection Growth in Life Transformation Conformation to Christ Being Marked Out as God's Sons Glorification Being Made God in Life and Nature Building Up of the Body of Christ New Jerusalem

Or, in an even shorter form:

Death Resurrection Growth Transformation Conformation Sonship Glorification Being Made God in Life and Nature New Jerusalem

7. Ultimate Conclusion

The deepest significance of “David's seed became the Son of God” is not merely a doctrine concerning Christ's resurrection; it reveals a principle of God's eternal economy.

Christ is the Firstborn Son and the prototype; we are the many sons. Christ passed through death and resurrection and was designated the Son of God in power; we, having received the divine life, are now passing through the same process of death and resurrection. As this life grows within us, we are transformed and conformed to the image of Christ. Eventually, in resurrection and glorification, we will be fully manifested as God's sons.

Thus, being marked out as God's sons, passing through death and resurrection, being transformed in life, and being made God in life and nature are four aspects of one divine process of sonship.

The ultimate goal is not merely individual spiritual maturity, but:

the corporate expression of the Triune God in the Body of Christ, consummating in the New Jerusalem.

One-Sentence Summary

Through death and resurrection, the divine life grows in us; through growth we are transformed and conformed to Christ, progressively marked out as God's sons, and ultimately made God in life and nature—but not in the Godhead—for the corporate expression of God in the Body of Christ and the New Jerusalem.
