The Overcoming Believer vs. Becoming a Pillar in the Temple

Based on biblical revelation and referring to Revelation 3:12, the overcomer, the pillar, transformation, and the ministry burden of the relationship between the Triune God and the church, we should view "the overcome believer" and "being a pillar in the temple" on the same line of life and building.

3. Content of Overcoming	In the church in Philadelphia, the overcomer keeps the Lord’s word, does not deny His name, keeps the word of His endurance, and holds fast what he has (Rev. 3:8, 10–11).	A pillar is not easily shaken, moved, or removed. The Lord says, “He shall by no means go out anymore.”	Overcoming brings in stability; stability brings in building.
4. Spiritual Position	An overcoming believer today lives in the church life as an overcomer.	Today such a believer can be a “pillar”; in the coming age he will be a pillar in God’s temple (Gal. 2:9; Rev. 3:12).	The overcomer today is the reality and anticipation of the pillar in the coming age.
5. Significance of the Pillar	The overcomer does not live spiritually only for himself but becomes one who upholds God’s testimony in the church.	A pillar is an important part of a building that supports, stabilizes, and expresses the structure of the building.	The pillar indicates that a believer has moved from individual spirituality to the building of the Body.
6. The Problem of the Natural Life	Overcoming does not depend on natural character, ability, strength, or zeal.	A pillar is not formed merely from natural material; it is produced through transformation and constitution.	Overcoming is not making the natural man better; it is allowing the natural element to be removed and the divine element to increase.
7. Transformation	The overcomer experiences transformation in life day by day (Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18).	The Lord “makes” the overcomer a pillar, implying that He constitutes him into something.	Transformation is the inward process of becoming a pillar.
8. Content of Transformation	The natural element is carried away.	The divine element and divine essence replace the natural element.	Natural element decreases → divine element increases → divine constitution is formed.
9. Work of Life	Christ works Himself into the believers so that they may grow in life (Eph. 4:15–16).	The pillar is the result of Christ being wrought into the believer and producing building.	Christ being wrought into us is the inward reality of both overcoming and becoming a pillar.
10. Relationship with the Triune God	The overcomer does not merely work for the Lord; he lives in the Triune God and allows the Triune God to work Himself into him.	In eternity there is no temple separate from the Triune God, for “the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple” (Rev. 21:22).	To be a pillar means to be a pillar in the Triune God; the pillar and the temple are not two separate realities.
11. Ultimate Meaning of the Temple	The overcomer looks toward entering into God’s building and becoming part of God’s dwelling place.	In the New Jerusalem there is “no temple,” because the Triune God Himself is the temple (Rev. 21:22).	Therefore, “being a pillar in the temple” ultimately means being built into the Triune God and mingled with the Triune God.
12. The Pillar and the Triune God	The overcomer experiences the dispensing of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit, allowing the divine life to work within him.	The pillar is “in the temple of God”; ultimately the temple is God Himself.	The pillar is a person filled with, saturated with, and constituted with the Triune God.
13. Relationship with the Church	The overcomer does not overcome by leaving the church; he overcomes in the church.	The golden lampstands signify the churches (Rev. 1:12, 20), and the lampstands also express the Triune God.	The church is the lampstand; the overcomers are the pillars in the building; both point to the expression of the Triune God.
14. Revelation of the Golden Lampstand	The overcomer lives in the church and allows God to be expressed.	The gold of the lampstand signifies the Father’s divine nature; its form signifies Christ as God’s embodiment and image; its seven lamps signify the Spirit in His sevenfold expression.	Thus, the reality of the church is not merely a human organization but the embodiment and expression of the Triune God.
15. Function of the Pillar	The overcomer upholds the Lord’s testimony and keeps His name and word (Rev. 3:8).	The pillar supports God’s building and signifies the stability and maturity of the building.	The overcomer upholds the testimony; the pillar upholds the building.
16. Relationship with the Body	The overcoming of the believer is not individualistic; it takes place in coordination with the members of the Body of Christ.	A pillar has meaning only as part of a building; separated from the building, it loses its function as a pillar.	True overcoming inevitably leads to the Body, coordination, and building.
17. Spiritual Maturity	The overcomer grows from immaturity to maturity, from merely receiving life to expressing life.	The pillar represents life that has matured to the point of being able to support the building.	Mature life produces a function for building.
18. Reward	The overcomer experiences Christ and stands for the Lord in this age.	“I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God” is the Lord’s promise and reward to the overcomer (Rev. 3:12).	The overcoming life in this age becomes the basis for the reward in the coming age.
19. Eternal Name	The overcomer belongs to God, belongs to the New Jerusalem, and belongs to the Lord.	The Lord promises to write upon him “the name of My God,” “the name of the city of My God,” and His “new name” (Rev. 3:12).	The pillar signifies not only stability but also complete belonging to God, union with God, and the expression of God’s identity.
20. Ultimate Consummation	The overcomer ultimately becomes part of the New Jerusalem (Rev. 3:12; 21:2, 9–10).	The pillar becomes one with the building of the city, while God Himself becomes the temple of the city.	Overcomer → pillar → God’s building → New Jerusalem → the eternal expression of the Triune God.
