Item

The Shepherd of Our Souls

The Overseer of Our Souls

Meaning

Christ shepherds our soul by nourishing, restoring, comforting, and supplying us with His divine life so that our soul may be refreshed and transformed.

Christ oversees our soul by watching, examining, guiding, preserving, and regulating our inward condition so that we remain in God's will.

Reason

Fallen man's soul has become weary, wounded, and wandering, requiring Christ's life supply.

The natural soul is prone to drift from God and therefore requires Christ's continual oversight and inward governing.

Type

Like a shepherd feeding, restoring, carrying, and leading the sheep to green pastures and waters of rest.

Like a shepherd watching over the flock, guarding, observing, and preventing the sheep from straying.

Explanation

Christ shepherds us through His life, grace, love, the Spirit, and His living word.

Christ oversees us through the indwelling Spirit, the inner anointing, the sense of life and peace, enlightenment, discipline, and sovereign arrangements.

Result

Our soul is revived, nourished, strengthened, comforted, and transformed.

Our soul is preserved from deviation, deception, fleshly living, and independence from God.

Purpose

To cause believers to grow in life and mature spiritually.

To keep believers continually walking according to God's will and divine life.

Relationship

Shepherding supplies life.

Overseeing preserves life.

Example

The Lord restored Peter after his failure

(John 21).

The Lord turned and looked at Peter, leading him to repentance (Luke 22:61).

Application

Daily receive Christ as our inward life supply through His Word, the Spirit, and fellowship.

Daily submit to Christ's inward governing by following the sense of life and responding to His inner speaking.

Ministry Burden

Not merely to save people but to nourish them unto maturity.

Not merely to care for people but to preserve them in the divine life until maturity.

Prophesying Direction

"Christ is my Shepherd, continually feeding, restoring, and supplying my soul with Himself."

"Christ is also my Overseer, continually watching over my thoughts, emotions, and decisions to keep me living in Him."

Conclusion

Christ shepherds us for life's growth.

Christ oversees us for life's preservation. Together, these two aspects accomplish God's organic salvation, build up the Body of Christ, and prepare the Bride for the Lord's return.

One-Sentence Prophesying Summary

Today Christ is not only the Shepherd of our souls, continually feeding, restoring, and supplying us with His divine life, but also the Overseer of our souls, constantly watching over, governing, and preserving our inward being, so that we may mature in life, participate in the building up of the Body of Christ, and receive the unfading crown of glory when the Chief Shepherd appears.

Ultimate Conclusion

Christ's heavenly ministry is primarily a ministry of shepherding. As the Shepherd of our souls, He nourishes, restores, and supplies us with His divine life; as the Overseer of our souls, He continually watches over, governs, and preserves our inward condition. These two inseparable aspects of His organic shepherding produce spiritual growth, safeguard believers in God's will, perfect the saints through the church's shepherding, build up the Body of Christ, prepare the Bride, and ultimately consummate God's eternal economy in the New Jerusalem, where the Lamb will shepherd His redeemed forever.
