The Walking Christ vs. the Speaking Spirit
Revelation 2:1 “Write to the
angels of the church in Ephesus, saying: This is what he says: He who holds
seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
Revelation 1:12 “I turned
around to see who was speaking to me. And when I turned, I saw seven golden
lampstands;
Revelation 1:13 And in the
middle of the lampstands was one who looked like a son of man, dressed in a
long robe that reached to his feet, and a golden belt around his breast.
Revelation 1:14 His head and
hair were white, like wool, like snow; his eyes were like flames;
Revelation 1:15 His feet were
like fine bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many
waters.
Revelation 1:16 In his right
hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp, double-edged
sword; and his face was like the sun at its zenith.
Revelation 1:17 When I saw him, I fell down at his feet as if dead. And he laid his right hand on me and said, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last.’”

The
Walking Christ |
The
Speaking Spirit |
|
Meaning |
Christ, as our
ascended High Priest, walks among the churches to observe, cherish, and care for them. |
The walking
Christ becomes the speaking Spirit, imparting Himself as
life into the churches. |
|
Reason |
In His humanity
He experienced every kind of temptation and can sympathize with our
weaknesses, cherishing us tenderly. |
In His divinity
He speaks all that He is, supplying the believers with His divine life. |
|
Figure |
The High Priest
trimming the lampstands, adjusting the wicks, and adding oil so that the light may shine properly. |
The tree of
life, the hidden manna, the morning star, and the white stone as the
Spirit's continual life supply. |
|
Explanation |
Christ
cherishes us in His humanity, comforting, restoring, healing, and making us joyful and at rest. |
Christ
nourishes us in His divinity through the Spirit's speaking, causing us to
grow
and mature in life. |
|
Result |
Believers are
enlightened, exposed, repent, and are recovered to a proper church life. |
Believers are
nourished, renewed, transformed, and matured to become
overcomers. |
|
Purpose |
To maintain the
churches as the golden lampstands expressing God's glory. |
To build up the
Body of Christ, produce the overcomers, and consummate the New
Jerusalem. |
|
Relationship |
Walking is the
High Priest's caring, observing, and cherishing ministry. |
Speaking is the
High Priest's life-imparting ministry. Walking leads to speaking,
and speaking fulfills the purpose of walking. |
|
Example |
Christ walks
among Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and
Laodicea, caring for each according to its condition. |
Each epistle
concludes, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches." |
|
Application |
Come daily to
the throne of grace to receive Christ's cherishing and intercession. |
Exercise the
spirit daily to hear the Spirit's speaking and receive His life supply. |
|
Ministry Burden |
To realize that
Christ is continually exercising His heavenly priesthood by caring for all
the churches. |
To realize that
Christ's present work is to speak as the Spirit, producing the
overcomers for God's economy. |
|
Prophesying Guidance |
Do not try to
improve yourself; receive the High Priest's daily cherishing and shepherding. |
Every speaking
of the Spirit is Christ Himself being infused into us for nourishment,
transformation, and building. |
|
Conclusion |
Christ walks
among the churches to cherish them. |
The Spirit
speaks to nourish the churches. These are two inseparable aspects of Christ's
heavenly priesthood for accomplishing God's eternal economy. |
