Mount Moriah: God’s Provision vs. God’s Vision
Genesis 22:14 Abraham named
that place Jehovah Jireh, and to this day
people say, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Genesis 22:2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him as a burnt offering on the mountain I will show you.”

Item |
God’s
Provision |
God’s
Vision |
|
Source of the Name |
“Jehovah-jireh”
(Gen.
22:14), meaning “Jehovah will provide” |
“Moriah” (Gen. 22:2), meaning “the vision of Jehovah” |
|
Scriptural Basis |
“In the mount
of Jehovah it shall be provided” (Gen. 22:14) |
“Go into the land
of Moriah... on one of the mountains which I will tell you” (Gen. 22:2) |
|
Alternative Rendering of the Latter Half of v. 14 |
“In the mount
of Jehovah it shall be provided” |
“In the mount
of Jehovah He shall be seen” |
|
Abraham’s Experience |
He saw the ram
caught by its horns in a thicket, offered as a burnt offering in place
of Isaac (Gen. 22:13) |
He saw God and was seen by God on the mountain; he received a clear vision |
|
Nature |
The aspect of God’s supply: meeting man’s
need, personally prepared by God |
The aspect of God’s revelation: enabling man
to see God Himself and know His heart’s desire |
|
Place and Timing |
On Mount
Moriah, when Abraham offered up Isaac |
On the same
mountain, at the same moment |
|
Relationship Between the Two |
God’s provision
is always accompanied by His vision |
Whenever we
enjoy God’s provision, we receive a vision |
|
Result in Man |
Enjoying God’s
supply and experiencing God as the One who raises the dead (Heb.
11:19) |
In it, man sees
God and God sees man, in mutual fellowship |
|
Prerequisite / Cost |
Offering up the
beloved, only-begotten Isaac (Gen. 22:2) |
The same: only by offering up Isaac can one ascend
Mount Moriah and see God |
|
Application Today |
God’s provision
today is in the church life, where we have the full provision |
In the church
life, we have a clear and transparent vision |
|
Practice in the Lord’s Recovery |
Enjoying God’s
full provision |
Receiving the
transparent vision |
|
Our Response |
In the Lord’s
recovery, we are ascending Mount Moriah, where we offer up our Isaac |
Same: after
offering up Isaac, we enjoy the provision and receive the vision |
Key
Points of Integration
1.
Provision and vision are inseparable: God’s
provision is His supply, and God’s vision is
His appearing. On Mount Moriah the two become one, so where there is provision there is vision, and to see God is to enjoy His provision.
2. Offering up
Isaac is the key: Abraham
did not first see the provision and then offer;
rather, it was on the way of obedient offering that God’s provision and vision were both manifested.
3. Mutual seeing: Not only do we see God, but God also sees us. This is a mutual relationship of
fellowship between God and man, not merely a one-way supply.
4. Applied in the
church life: Today, the reality of Mount Moriah is the church life. As we offer up what we love (our “Isaac”) in the church life,
we enjoy God’s full provision and receive a
clear vision.
